Welcome to the Greater Sharpstown District
The District of 10-square-miles is located in Harris County and is bordered by Hillcroft on the east, Beltway 8 on the west, Westpark Tollway on the north and U.S. 59 / Bissonnet on the south.
The Greater Sharpstown Management District was created by the Texas Legislature in June 2005 to enhance the physical, social, and economic well being of the Sharpstown community. It is a governmental entity administered by a nine-member, all volunteer board of directors. Projects and services of the district are funded through 6-cents per 100 hundred dollar HCAD evaluations assessment that generates approximately $1 million in annual revenues in 2009.
In February 2007, the board of directors adopted an five-point Service and Action Plan to address Sharpstown’s mobility and transportation planning, environmental and urban design elements, health and public safety initiatives, and business and economic development. Since then, the district has taken direct action to fulfill the goals outlined in this plan. The mission of the District is to attract and supplement public and private capital investment, provide professional management of the area’s needs and maintain the Greater Sharpstown District as a premier place to work, live and invest.

Are You Ready?
Viewing, discussing preparedness video could make a big
difference when an actual hurricane hits
“Are you ready?” That question truly demands an answer from Gulf Coast area residents who have often struggled through weather-related disasters. That’s also why there is a 15-minute DVD, titled “Are You Ready?” that is available to advise and prepare families and individuals on how to respond to and recover from the effects of any disaster. We are in hurricane season now so taking the time to be prepared is important.
The DVD contains versions in English, Spanish, Vietnamese and Chinese. It also contains captioned versions in each language and an American Sign Language version for the hearing-impaired. Area residents can view the “Are You Ready?” DVD online or order a free copy at www.readyhoustontx.gov. Along with offering the DVD, the www.readyhoustontx.gov website provides quick access to a variety of local and national information about disaster preparedness.
Make time to watch something useful for the whole family. Remember: the key to staying safe throughout the course of a hurricane is knowing what to do before and during the crisis and knowing where to turn for help. Now is the time to prepare before a storm is in our region!
